“Stay in Missouri!” — Fans Urge Chiefs to Follow the Green Bay–Buffalo Model Instead of Movin.Ng1

Jackson County Executive Frank White adds new stadium proposal, only for Chiefs

The debate over the future of professional sports in the Kansas City region has become one of the most heated discussions among fans, city leaders, and taxpayers.

At the center of the conversation are two iconic franchises: the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL and the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball.

Both teams currently play in stadiums located in Missouri, but recent discussions about stadium funding and redevelopment have raised the possibility of major changes in the future.

For many fans, however, the answer is simple: stay in Missouri.

Arrowhead’s historic importance

Few stadiums in professional football carry as much tradition as Arrowhead Stadium.

Home of the Kansas City Chiefs since 1972, Arrowhead has become famous for its electrifying atmosphere and record-breaking crowd noise.

Generations of fans have gathered there to watch the Chiefs build their legacy in the National Football League.

Under quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the franchise has reached new heights, capturing multiple Super Bowl titles and becoming one of the most dominant teams of the modern era.

Because of that success, many supporters feel the team should continue building its history at Arrowhead rather than relocating.

The Kansas question

In recent years, officials in Kansas have explored potential plans that could attract the Chiefs across the state line.

Such a move would likely involve new stadium incentives and large-scale development projects.

But many fans strongly oppose the idea.

For them, moving the team away from Missouri — even if the distance is relatively small — would represent a major cultural shift.

Kansas City’s identity, they argue, has always been tied to Missouri sports history.

The “small-market loyalty” model

Supporters of keeping the Chiefs in Missouri often point to other NFL teams that have remained loyal to their communities.

The Green Bay Packers have stayed in the small city of Green Bay for more than a century, maintaining one of the strongest fan cultures in sports.

The Buffalo Bills are currently building a new stadium while remaining in Buffalo, reinforcing their connection to the region.

Similarly, the New England Patriots built a modern stadium in Foxborough while continuing to represent the same regional identity.

Fans in Kansas City believe the Chiefs could follow a similar path — upgrading facilities without leaving Missouri.

What about the Royals?

While the future of the Chiefs remains uncertain, many fans appear more open to change when it comes to baseball.

The Kansas City Royals have long discussed the possibility of building a new downtown ballpark.

A downtown stadium could transform the city’s entertainment district, bringing restaurants, hotels, and nightlife closer to the baseball experience.

But even among supporters of that idea, one condition often appears in fan discussions: the stadium should still be located in Missouri.

The bigger regional rivalry

The debate has also intensified the long-standing rivalry between Missouri and Kansas over economic development.

Both states want to attract businesses, entertainment districts, and major sports investments.

Because professional sports franchises generate significant tourism and local spending, keeping teams within state borders has become a matter of civic pride.

A decision that could shape the future

For now, the future locations of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals remain uncertain.

Political negotiations, financing plans, and potential public votes could ultimately determine where each franchise plays in the coming decades.

But among many fans, one message continues to echo across social media and community discussions.

The Chiefs belong at Arrowhead Stadium, in Missouri, where their legacy was built.

Which leads to the question now dividing the region.

Should the Chiefs stay loyal to Missouri like teams such as the Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills

or could Kansas eventually convince the franchise to cross the state line for a brand-new stadium? 🏈
