Steelers Could Lose a Key Piece

For the past few seasons, the Pittsburgh Steelers have been trying to rebuild their offensive strength. With a young roster and a philosophy focused on physicality, Pittsburgh has always needed running backs who can do more than just run backs.

That’s why Kenneth Gainwell has become a highly valued name in the trade market.

Gainwell isn’t a headline star, but he brings incredible versatility. He can run backs from first down, catch from third down, and even participate in special situations. In the modern NFL—where teams increasingly prioritize versatile players—a running back like Gainwell is very valuable.

However, Pittsburgh is facing a financial dilemma. With many positions needing investment, spending around $6 million on a running back isn’t an easy option.

Therefore, experts believe the Steelers may let Gainwell go on the free agent market.

Vikings and Seahawks Could Be the Perfect Destinations

As soon as that possibility arose, two teams were immediately mentioned as potential destinations: the Minnesota Vikings and the Seattle Seahawks.

The reason is simple.

Both teams possess outstanding offensive stars but still need more depth at the running back position.

Aaron Rodgers Suggests The Steelers Need To Give A Massive Payday To Key Offensive Piece

For the Vikings, their offensive system often utilizes running backs in both running and catching games. A player like Gainwell could provide them with additional options in screen-pass or play-action situations.

NFL analysts believe Gainwell “would adapt immediately” to Minnesota’s style of play. His ability to make routes from backfield could cause problems for opposing defenses.

Meanwhile, the Seattle Seahawks have always preferred offensive players with speed and agility. The Seahawks have built an offensive system based on fast tempo and the ability to create big play.

Gainwell may not be a primary running back, but he can be incredibly effective in special offensive packages — something Seattle always likes to exploit.

A $6 million price tag could be a bargain.

With many running backs on the market demanding much larger contracts, a price of around $6 million for Kenneth Gainwell is actually quite reasonable.

Especially for teams competing in the playoffs.

A player who can contribute in multiple aspects — running, catching, and special teams — often brings more value than the salary cap alone.

Therefore, many analysts believe Gainwell will attract considerable interest when the market opens.

Are the Steelers taking a gamble?

If the Pittsburgh Steelers do let Gainwell go, they are betting on finding a cheaper replacement.

That’s not a new strategy for Pittsburgh. For years, the Steelers have relied on developing young players rather than spending heavily on free agents.

But that strategy also carries risks.

If Gainwell joins a team like the Minnesota Vikings or Seattle Seahawks and explodes onto the scene, the Steelers could face difficult questions about their decision.

The transfer market could decide everything.

Currently, it’s all just speculation. But when the National Football League free agency officially opens, teams will act quickly.

A $6 million contract might not be a blockbuster deal, but in the NFL, these kinds of deals sometimes have the biggest impact.

And if Kenneth Gainwell does leave the Pittsburgh Steelers, don’t be surprised if he soon becomes a “great addition” to a competing team—especially the Minnesota Vikings or Seattle Seahawks.

Because sometimes in the NFL, those smaller signings are what help a team go further in January.
